Facing Worlds

FACING WORLDS
A core built of lies and a ground I surmised
Was the world I found inside you
I was convinced that you lifted the sun, that you hung the moon
That you were the axis and I revolved around you
When I looked to your skies I became trapped inside
That bright blue cage held me so many nights
Reality washed over me, and I drowned in its arms
It killed for me the fantasy I made for myself
I watched as fiction crumbled to history
It killed for me the fantasy I made for myself
Lost and drifting through these skies
The horizon met with the rising tides
When I reached the edge and I was thrown right off the sides
I kept waiting
For this place to become my home
I kept fading
inside its hold
This external world is built by internal dreams
Now I know
Reality washed over me, and I drowned in its arms
It killed for me the fantasy I made for myself
I watched as fiction crumbled to history
I let myself drown in the arms of reality
I watched as fiction crumbled to history

Traced In The Sunrise

TRACED IN THE SUNRISE
The morning light etched your face so I could see
that you were turned away from me
The trees outside, stood so still in the tranquil breeze
But the sun still shined bright through the leaves
You missed it rise, the moment passed you in your sleep
I hope you saw it in your dreams
And the sunrise marred the blue sky with streaks and ribbons of color
I realized without those flaws it would not have been quite as beautiful
Beautiful to me
And I wish you could have seen the beauty
Because I know you won't believe
Not one more day
Can I bear to hear you say
That you curse every breath you take
Not one more time
Can I see you die inside
Just wait for the sunrise
To fall upon your open eyes
I realized the second
I knew that you were perfect
I pin-pointed the instant
I knew that you were perfect
When I saw the silhouette of your aura
Against the ambience of nature
In a sky so perfect to me
A heaven in you that you can't see
Not one more day
Can I bear to hear you say
That you curse every breath you take
Not one more time
Can I see you die inside
Just wait for the sunrise
To fall upon your open eyes

Glass Skin

GLASS SKIN
We take the sand out of our clocks
Heat it with the fire that burns inside us
And we forge the glass to encase ourselves
That chokes the flames that helped it to be
Now place a blade against your shell
And etch some pretty pictures that show and tell
The person that you think you are
Draw anything to keep them from seeing through
But as you stare at your glass skin
The ornate carvings on it do not hide your reflection
We all know just who we are
We’re just afraid to face it, afraid of changing
We can see everything inside ourselves
Let this skin be a cocoon
To shed and help us grow into what we are
We’ll find these bones just need some time
In a fire of honesty they will refine
And now you stare at your bare bones
All you need to know is this frame is yours to mold
We all know just who we are
We’re just afraid to face it, afraid of changing
We can see everything inside ourselves
It’s time to break the projections that we created
We have to break them
It’s time to live without this casing
No more false faces

CYCLES ARE LINKS IN A CHAIN
We all crawl in one big circle
With color-coated hands
We paint our paths
In our process of slowly inching forward
We encounter the open hands of strangers
Their shadows eclipse the lines that we make
They’ve come to add
Shades we don't have
The shape that I make fades into a face that I've seen
A cycle starts inside this heart and drains out in front of me
It’s connecting, affecting to create
A weakened spot for these walls to break
A light to animate this room
Like attaching faces in a waning moon
Now I sit in this familiar form
Surrounded by what I should have known
The most important thing
Is what I let inside this shape
Time is running out to fill the empty space
The hands on the clock will not reach for me
The size of this life is measured by
The spectrum of colors within these lines
And those lines won't lead to an ending
They'll continue long after our vessels empty
Our hands will connect and mold us together
We'll paint a line that continues forever
Cycles are links in a chain
Binding all our pain
And helping us find a way
Carve a circle on my grave
Erase my only shades of gray
A canvas you helped me create
A cycle that does not end with me
A circle begins in the heart of this one. The heart of this one
A circle completes through the eyes of the ones we'll stare into forever
